Bell peppers grow very well in hydroponic systems, they are easy to grow and the production is very high. They are ready to harvest between 80 to 110 days, As Bell peppers ripen they change colors from green to red, yellow, orange or brown depending on the variety. For example California Wonder changes to red.
Bell Peppers are picked after 80 days when they are firm and thumpy sounding when tapping with finger. The longer they stay on the plant the more ripe they get and closer to their final color.
Bell pepper plants can grow as high as 18 feet in large hydroponic bays and can produce peppers for eight months, they can be grown in various types of hydroponic systems like DWC or bacto buckets and can be trimmed to fit inside the home or cabinet like the Equiponics 700 and still produce large amounts of peppers.
When grown in the ground these plants are bushy and only produce a small fraction of plants grown hydroponically.
If growing in a cabinet whose height is no more than 5 feet from the base of the plant to the light a minimum LED light of 2000 watt is require to get peppers that are 3 to 5 inches in height, any less would yield skinny elongated peppers as seen on the picture below.
